General
 
  Student has difficulty with both word reading and comprehension.
 
 
Specific
 
  Specific to Word Reading
   
    Student has difficulty reading the words but does comprehend.
 
  Specific to Comprehension
   
    Student has difficulty comprehending but does read the words.
 
 
Complex
 
  The origin of the student's reading difficulties is deeper than lack of teaching or learning.
 
 
Emotional Involvement
 
  Student's self-image has been damaged by the reading disability.
