Learning the Letters of the Alphabet: M

Disappearing M...M...Monsters

Have students draw a picture of a monster on a white sheet of paper with a washable black marker. When they are finished, gather students in a circle and tell about a wonderful new product to get rid of monsters: Monster Spray! Spray the monster drawing with one or two squirts of Monster Spray (water in a bottle). To the amazement of everyone, the monster begins to disappear!

You can then mount the disappearing monsters on a large sheet of construction paper with the following poem underneath the picture:

Every night when I'm asleep
Into my room the monsters creep.
I call to Mom, "Please come and stay!
And don't forget the monster spray!"
She comes right in and sprays right here.
Then all the monsters disappear!

"M" Mosaic

Cut out a large, block letter M for each student. (Click here for a printable. Word Document or PDF format.) Give students several pieces of brightly colored construction paper and have them tear the paper into pieces (approximately 1" or 2" pieces). Have students then glue the pieces, or "tiles" onto the M. When finished, trim off any pieces which are hanging over.
