The ever-popular Ruby and Max are back in this charming board book. Max wants to go outside and play baseball. "No baseball, Max," Ruby tells her brother. "It's raining. If you want to go outside, you need to wear your boots." Ruby then proceeds to dress Max and herself in colorful wet-weather attire. On go Max's red boots then Ruby's blue ones. Yellow and green slickers come next, and so on.

Finally the two bunnies are suitably dressed. They walk outside to find the rain has stopped! "Baseball!" says Max, running into the bright sunshine, slipping off his rain gear as he goes.

Classroom Experience: We took the book into a Pre-K classroom. The two-year-olds to whom we read the book thought it was hilarious and demanded several readings. The children were fascinated with the cover with its shiny foil rain drops which sparkle as you move the book. One older child who was just learning her colors also enjoyed the book, taking great pride in being able to point out and correctly name the various colors.

Rosemary Wells is always a wonderful choice for the pre-school to kindergarten set, and Ruby's Rainy Day is no exception.

Highly recommended.
