Note:
Primary Physical Science is a series from Kids Can Press which explore physics and include hands-on activities for primary-age students.
Move It! is a science book written for the youngest of students. It explores two forces of motion: push and pull. Readers learn that objects are moved by pushing or pulling. This could include lifting, jumping, blowing, throwing, and kicking. Too, readers learn that objects will move in a straight line unless acted upon by another force. Gravity and friction are also discussed.
Included are five well-designed activities that allow readers to explore the concepts discussed. In the activity titled "Puffing Power," the guiding question is: Does a big force make things move faster? Using a Ping-Pong ball and a drinking straw, students experiment to see what happens when they blow softly and then blow harder.
Each double-page spread is awash with eye-catching, colorful illustrations done on computer. The print is large and easy to read. An index is appended.
Classroom Use: We took the book into a kindergarten classroom. We read portions of the text to the students and then tried the activities. The students enjoyed both the experiments and the book.
