Games for Reviewing Material

Last Student Standing

To review information for any subject, I play a game with my class called "The Bump Game." I have the students line up, facing me. I call out a question for review, and if the students think they can answer, they raise their hand. I call on only the first one that "I" see. If that student can answer the question within 3 seconds, she may gently bump with an elbow the person to the left or the right of her and that person must go and sit down. I always caution them ahead of time that they must go and sit down with dignity, or they may not play the next round. The last person standing is the winner. The students love to play this as it gets them up and moving. I always caution them to listen carefully because I repeat questions over many times during the playing of the game, and they may miss it if they are not paying close attention. I have played this with students from 2nd grade to 8th grade. I have a typed list of questions with the answers in bold for easy viewing by me. We move fairly quickly and go 5-6 rounds in about 30 minutes.
